We had (perhaps foolishly) hoped that the government would see through their initial strides to put the people first. The wellbeing of the poor black majority. Ahead of economics, we hoped we would acknowledge the danger inequality has placed the majority of this country.
But this is not the case. Industry has lobbied, and bit by bit..Our government has caved. All the while, the EC faces a backlog of 1000s of samples untested & the closure of 2 major hospitals. We saw how one funeral impacted the number of infectionsbin the Queenstown area alone!
And now we say churches can open. Churches that were under level 1, can now open. At the beginning of winter.. Spiritual gatherings where abantu are sometimes taken by umoya and fall, are now permitted under level 3??

Kudlaliwe ngathi shem.
We cannot separate the church from capitalism. We cannot underestimate the financial dent the online Easter had on the church industry. The financial dent each Sunday minus inkongozelo and tithes continues to have on the church industry.
And this is not to take away from the very important work that the institutions of religious gatherings have been doing since the beginning of the pandemic...
I'm just highlighting the age old state-church affair. & the foolishness on our part, to think that our capitalist leaders, would put the the poor black majority 1st.

After all... Disposable black life is an integral part of capitalism. & capitalism will do anything to survive.
