I was arguing with this bigot about how going back to tourism isn't going to solve the problems we have now and he just couldn't wrap his head around it. He tried pointing out that ag isn't doing well, and I said it's bcuz the state panders to tourism in the first place.
Then he said we need a solution now (implying we reopen) and I pointed out that spenders aren't going to just come back all at once. He kept asking what my solution was and I kept saying shift towards ag and he just wasn't having it.
Finally, he asked what makes me think that my idea will work. So I told him that it'll help fix two problems: 1) food independence and 2) unemployment. He didn't understand how it would help unemployment, so I told him while everyone was getting laid off, I kept working.
Why is it so difficult for people (haole and local alike) to imagine an economically independent Hawaii? Don't they realize that we're so dependent on imports bcuz the way the system is currently set up? Do they not realize that we can't feed our families tourism?
