The fight over the Trudeau government& #39;s new gun laws skirts around a core question: How can Canada crack down on assault-style rifles when they& #39;re so readily available right next door? https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/05/26/canada-gun-control-laws-united-states-nova-scotia-mass-shooting-justin-trudeau/">https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/05/2...
This is a really frustrating issue. It& #39;s obviously pressing, and the Trudeau government is doing *something.*
On the other hand, the gun types are right: These measures probably won& #39;t make a significant difference, and they do put further onus on law-abiding gun-owners.

I think lots of gun owners in Canada accept that they will be inconvenienced in order to stop gun violence. And I think most are okay with that. But it is incumbent on the government to pursue measures that aren& #39;t arbitrary or over-zealous — unless the end result is worth it.
Obviously convincing America to adopt better gun laws is a pipe dream. And more border checks are simply insufficient.
Beyond that, I don& #39;t know what the solution is. But it& #39;s probably time we turn towards the real problem: America.

All of the angry gunpeople replying to this thread to let me know how wrong I am — and that they will never accept reasonable gun regulations — are certainly doing a lot to change my opinion.
