At least 200 people were waiting outside a bakery or crowding around a nearby ice cream truck when three 82 mm mortar shells fired by #Serbs slammed into #VaseMiskina Street. Shells came from the hills south of #Sarajevo called Borije.

The market on #VaseMiskina was strewn with scores of bleeding people, with corpses and weeping men and women with torn-off limbs. "I saw people lying on the ground, cut to pieces, with their brains spilling out." Sulejman Hebib said in an interview with #Sarajevo radio.
Another unidentified witness said, “People were lying all over the place. I saw a man with his stomach open. I saw a guy without both legs. All over the place it was like a huge pile of human meat.”

Snipers shot at rescuers and ambulances as they carried the casualties, witnesses said, “Snipers fired on us while we were collecting the wounded. They are like beasts. This is a war that a monster is waging against us.”

First accounts of witnesses from that day:
In Washington, the U.S. administration said that “Europe has not seen such pain and cruelty” since the darkest days of World War II.

Sarajevo radio said one of their reporters counted at least 100 people being treated for injuries at several city hospitals. The radio appealed for emergency blood donations.

Dr. Faris Gavrankapetanovic said, "From 9:50 to 12:00, 80 heavily wounded people, all unarmed civilians, came into the hospital. Included among these injuries were limb, head, neck & organ wounds. The hospital saw 107 patients."

Here is the video from the 'Kosevo' hospital.
Stjepan Kljuic, a member of the Bosnia-Hercegovina presidency said, "They fired at poor people who were in lines waiting for bread and who had taken a chance to go out on this sunny day and breath some air after spending days and nights in their basements."

#Massacre
Vice President Ejup Ganic charged that Serbian extremists deliberately targeted the breadlines, "They can see the people from the hills and bread is sold only in a few places. This is a catastrophe. The only thing that can stop this is foreign military intervention."

#Serbs
#UN Secretary-General Boutros Ghali has recommended against such a move. But, Western diplomats have said there is growing pressure on the UN Security Council to provide military escorts for humanitarian aid convoys to the beleaguered republic.

On 28 May 1992, Vedran Smajlovic #Cellist from Sarajevo decided to play 22 consecutive days for the victims of the #Massacre He played Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor at 4pm sharp, at the same spot, to honor civilians who were killed.

He continued playing beyond 22 days [innitial report suggested 22 people have been killed, it was later confirmed to be 26] Witnesses wanted him to play at the same #Massacre spot but he recommended to change the location on a daily basis because of the security reasons.

During the war 'fleur de Lis' was a memorial to the 26 people killed in the #BreadlineMassacre
It read, “As soon as tomorrow, the lilies of freedom will bloom from this bloody concrete.”
Today we have Sarajevo roses in places of #Massacres A #SarajevoRose is a type of memorial in Sarajevo made from a concrete scar caused by a mortar shell’s explosion that was later filled with red resin.

Mortar rounds landing on concrete during the #SiegeOfSarajevo created a unique fragmentation pattern that looks almost floral in the arrangement and therefore, has been named ‘rose’.

There are around 200 'roses' in the entire city, and they are marked on locations where at least three persons have been killed during the #SiegeOfSarajevo

Regarding the ‘roses’ of #Sarajevo, we highly recommend you watch a documentary feature called ‘Sarajevo Roses’ by Roger M. Richards @rogermrichards
@Independent The headline is misleading, facts are wrong and some of the sources are not clear. It would be fair to say, according to today’s standards that it is 100% #FakeNews We think people of #Bosnia #Sarajevo and victims above all deserve at least the deletion of it.
Some of the claims are factually wrong. Like this one, 'We believe it was a command-detonated explosion, probably in a can,' a #UN official said then. [there is no source] This one is degrading, “Bosnian forces loyal to President Alija Izetbegovic may have detonated a bomb.” ???
@Independent 26 innocent civilians were killed that day and we think you owe them an apology. Seeing headlines like this: 'Muslims 'slaughter their own people' is just insulting. You fell for #Serbian propaganda which is sadly present even today.

#GenocideDeniers
In the age of fake news, in extremely difficult times for fair and just reporting you’re giving platform and materials to #Genocide deniers, "Staged several attacks on their own people in the hope of dramatising the city's plight in the face of insuperable Serbian odds." several?
War criminal #RatkoMladic was sentenced to life in #ICTY in The Hague, he was convicted of 10 of the 11 charges. One of them is 'Terrorising the population of #Sarajevo during the #Siege of the city'

#ButcherOfBosnia
#ICTY has this in their transcripts: “This planted device theory, which has no support… 'could only have been' caused by an incoming projectile... intentionally altered a photo from the investigative file...”

You can check it here: https://www.icty.org/x/cases/mladic/trans/en/161207IT.htm
@Independent your article from 7 February 1994 says, “The accusation that the Muslims slaughtered their own people to score a propaganda victory smacks of incredible cynicism and callousness. But to the #Serbs, historical myth is in many ways more important than historical fact.”
Even though it needs updating and correcting the stats, it is clear that the @Independent article from 22 August 1992 was a mistake and needs to be removed. We hope you understand and we sincerely hope you will act accordingly - independently and justly.

#VaseMiskina #WeRemember
@Independent Here is a photo from #VaseMiskina Massacre. There were at least 150 photojournalists covering the war in #Bosnia & #SiegeOfSarajevo

We expect from you at least some kind of acknowledgment of our remarks. Any response?

We DID NOT do this!
