this thread is a joke because i had to research them for my ap bio class but ricin is pretty sick. its made from castor beans specifically and is one of the most deadly toxins in the world, only needing about 8 castor beans (not even its purified form) to kill an adult.

it's a protein with two subcomponents, meaning that it's a protein that's made up of two parts, and those two parts include the "attachment" part and the "killing" part. when this protein comes in contact with a human cell, the "attachment" part makes it so the toxin--

--sticks to the cell and stays there, allowing the "killing" part to detach and pass through the cell's outer "skin" and move through the inside of the cell, deactivating the ribosomes (which are protein-making components of the cell that are necessary for survival)--

and with deactivated ribosomes, the cell can no longer survive. ricin is highly effective and can kill within 48-72 hours, and is easily accessible (castor plants are very easily grown) + there is no known cure or antidote, making it very dangerous.

one use of ricin i remember is when some guy killed an author with the use of a ricin pellet hidden inside an umbrella-gun??? he stabbed the author with this umbrella and injected a ricin pellet underneath his skin, killing him in a couple days

thread over anyways heres ur reminder to drink water also ur okay if u have a castor plant/have eaten a castor bean . they have very thick outer coatings that allow them to be eaten without poisoning the person who ate it so dw! hope you guys enjoy my stupid bio student talks
