You don't need to be a scholar of violence and visuality to know that it's unwise to re-share images/videos of Black social suffering, terror, pain, and death online.
But in case you need a reminder today (and here I'm speaking to other non-Black people in particular): [1/4]
the world is already supremely polluted by anti-Black racism and white supremacy. The global circulation of images of Black people experiencing state and interpersonal violence has also intensified in our public culture over the past three decades. [2/4]
No amount of visual repetition of these violences will undo them alone. No amount. Please tend your digital gardens with more care and consideration. Find other sensuous outlets for your sadness + rage and be mindful of the images you help spread in our digital atmosphere. [3/4]
We need to circulate a new system for our knowing and feeling that exceeds the visual register alone. Only then will we be able to reanimate our collective senses toward a praxis of justice, not terror. [4/4]
