The appointment of David Evans is just another sign that Starmer’s counter-revolution is in full swing. Many members on the left of the party voted for Starmer, largely out of naivety as to what he truly represented.
Had Momentum bothered to educate them on party history and the tendency within it that Starmer represents we may well not be in the position we find ourselves in today.
But to do so would require a commitment to socialist politics that those behind Momentum’s social media output clearly do not have. The massive reach they’ve gained over the course of four years has been wasted.
Rather than using it as a tool to educate the masses they’ve chosen to promote clickbait instead. It’s vital that democratic control is exercised over Momentum’s communications moving forward.
And that it be focused on building the intellectual and organisational capacities not just of Momentum’s membership but the working class as a whole.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a working class orientated populist social media strategy. I helped co-found Red Labour for that very purpose. But it’s clear those deciding Momentum’s output are simply incapable of doing so.
If you’re a Momentum member in the South of England and want to see this happen along with a ton of other change then please consider voting for me in the Momentum NCG elections.
