I’m still not over the loss of Pacific Standard and cannot begin to process the furloughs at Outside and layoffs at Longreads in addition to all other media cuts these last two months. Truly. I don’t even know what to say.

Grieving for my fellow writers and editors of course but my god the readers and greater public who depend on the work of these institutions to ensure this country doesn’t outright kill them one way or another.

It is difficult for me not to fixate on the likelihood that we are ~in theory~ five months from a national election with an alarming reduction in public accountability.
