I did an interview today with @llerer of the #NewYorkTimes about #TaraReade who has accused #JoeBiden of sexual assault. Since an article is being written in which I expect to be quoted, I want to tell the complete story for any who might be interested. 1 of 16
I knew Tara Reade as Tara McCabe from 2002-2005. I believe she was one year ahead of me. We connected through our mutual involvement in the Christian Legal Society. That meant we attended weekly meetings together as well as two CLS conferences. 2/17
One was in Destin, FL & another in Savannah, GA. This allowed plenty of opportunities for us to talk and as we became friends she told me about her life. She told me about a bad marriage and that she had recently changed her name & moved to Seattle because of abuse. 3/17
She also told me she was attending law school, in part, because of her desire to be an advocate for domestic violence victims like herself. It was during one of these conversations that she told me something that now seems relevant. 4/17
In a conversation about her marriage and abuse, she told me that while working in DC she had been sexually assaulted by "someone you would know." She did not provide names and I did not ask. It was a short part of a longer conversation. 5/17
Previously she told me she had worked for Biden & seemed proud of it. Because she was aware I knew that, I assumed her cryptic description of an assault implied it was not Biden. But I didn't know who she was referring to & that's not a subject you pry for info about. 6/17
I hadn't thought about that conversation in many years. I was aware of allegations that had been made against Biden, but the name Tara Reade meant nothing to me. Only when I saw a picture of her in a promo for her interview with Megyn Kelly did I realize... 7/17
I knew her. Once I realized I knew her, the comment she made about being sexually assaulted by "someone you would know" suddenly had new significance. 8/17
I was not in DC in 1993 and I cannot say what happened between Biden and Tara. But I can say that she made comments to me approximately 17 years ago that are consistent with what she is saying now. 9/17
And she did so in a context in which there was no obvious motive to lie. It was simply two law school friends talking about where we had come from and where we hoped to go. 10/17
After law school, we kept in touch for a while through Christmas cards and social media. She moved back to California and I knew she had difficulty passing the bar exam there. We spoke a few times. She tried to be positive, but I knew things were challenging. 11/17
In recent years, we lost touch completely as evidenced by the fact that I was unaware she was going by the name Tara Reade. Even when I knew her, her life had been challenging and there was plenty of evidence that was the case. 12/17
Recent media accounts suggest the challenges continued, some of which may have been of her own making but none of which are relevant to what did or did not happen with Joe Biden. The truth is the truth, even if a liar says it. 13/17
My political leanings are well documented and nothing I am ashamed of, but I realize some will conclude that because I differ with Biden, I might be willing to connect myself to a conspiracy to harm his campaign. 14/17
My view of politics is much too dim for those kinds of shenanigans. Not worth it. The political strategist in me believes this issue will be mostly irrelevant to the election. People hate Trump enough that there is nothing his opponent could do to lose their support. 15/17
And given the record, the Trump team isn't going to make respect for women a central theme of the campaign.

I am, however, bothered by the way Tara has been treated. No honest person can claim Tara has received the same consideration as Christine Blasey Ford... 16/17
...in a similar situation. So, if I have any motivation other than the truth, it's to make sure that no one ever has to face a bully alone. In this case, I was in a position to prevent that from happening for an old friend. 17/17
