I also want to note while we're on the topic of Dr. Curtis Crane that he is one of the few surgeons that promotes and performs in a professional context what's called "genital nullification". Once an extremely outsider kink body modification, it's now done by some GRS surgeons...
See this 2017 Vice article on male people (often who see themselves as men) who are seeking castration and/or penectomy, which features quotes by Dr. Crane: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/3kd3mb/why-some-men-choose-to-surgically-remove-their-penis
This blog post published by a kink website discusses how Crane assisted a man named "Mr. Gelding" to achieve penectomy. It makes Gelding sound stable & self-assured in his desires despite the fact he apparently performed underground castrations: https://kinktalk.home.blog/2019/06/10/nullos-and-smoothies/
Unlike the kink article, it notes Gelding's previous psychs noted the link between homophobia/abuse & his desire to maim/remove his genitals, & explicitly notes Gelding's refusal to contemplate any further why he wants to do this:
Surgeons who did this procedure (one of which is noted in the Miami article) at one point had to be found thru word-of-mouth. They usually did it as a form of harm reduction to prevent worse damage should someone attempt self-castration or other forms of genital self-injury...
Crane now proudly advertises it on his practice website under a form of "non-binary" surgery, despite the fact that it is mostly men, often with a non-transgender sexual motivation, & not non-binary identified people who seek genital nullification https://cranects.com/non-binary-surgery/
(The fact that these are called "non binary surgeries" is also bonkers, as non-binary is an identity, not a physical arrangement, & some the surgeries listed are merely less-damaging or less-radical options available for traditionally identifying transgender people...
I honestly believe Dr. Crane is advertising these genital surgeries as "non binary" as a more acceptable way of saying "androgyne" or "hermaphrodite" to a population of sexually atypical, mostly male people, who are seeking them for sexualized/sexual trauma reasons.)
Terrifyingly enough, Crane also notes the requirements for genital nullification on female-sexed people. While it's exceedingly rare for female people to seek it, I have to wonder if he has had patients he's performed this on. (I'm not digging thru fetish internet to find out.)
