a lot of people are pointing out today that if you want to understand how bedrock Christian hegemony is to our society:

every time you write or type the date, in the year 2020, you are affirming that the most important event in humanity's existence was Jesus's birth
And yes, I absolutely understand and agree with the point that we need some sort of universal calendar in a global society

and I don't mind that it's this one

but that doesn't change that our world defines *time* by Christian frameworks
(personally, I hope we someday replace the Gregorian calendar with one that centers around the birth of the internet)
but when people from non-Christian cultures try to talk to you about how baseline Christianity is to western culture and the way all of us in it think, even if you are not a believing Christian, this is a prime example of those assumptions
and members of non-Christian religions aren't immune to thinking, unquestioningly, within those frameworks, obv

it's just when you *also* live part of your life by, say, a different calendar it gets thrown into sharper relief than it probably does for your average ex-Christian
But it's also why I roll my eyes when people with atheist parents say they weren't raised with any Christian assumptions

cool

what calendar did you use to determine when your birthday was?
