People asking why Labour have not been able to narrow the gap.

One fundamental problem is that Starmer is asking for Cummings to be sacked, even though he has failed to discipline those within his own party who have flouted social distancing measures.

Zero moral authority.
Starmer needs to be careful over lecturing others on holding the British public in contempt.

He was the chief architect of a disastrous second referendum policy which did just that - with electorally devastating results for his own party.

That will still stick in some minds.
On top of that, some Lab politicians have blamed Cummings for seriously contributing to the rate of COVID-19 infections in the North East of England.

Unfortunately, that sort of outrageous 'analysis' makes Labour look like a laughing stock - not a credible electoral alternative.
Cummings has a great deal to answer for, but Labour needs to pick its battles.

Polling shows the public are upset over PPE shortages for frontline NHS staff, worried over the care homes crisis, and think testing provision has been inefficient.

Talk about the bread + butter.
