One of the most heartfelt, off-the-cuff speech I have ever witnessed on a campaign trail was from @HowieHamptonNDP on October 4, 2007 in Hamilton.

The main issue he raised was seniors living in nursing homes in soiled diapers.
I remember as @jtferrier and I briefing him on his campaign Ford Escape Hybrid.

Hampton was clearly upset and frustrated.
The Q&A mock-up session was not going well.

He kept repeating that there was only six more days to go.
I knew we were about to witness something epic from Hampton so I alerted all hands to be on deck.

I assumed there would be some damage control and spinning required.

It was one of the most incredibly sincere, outburst from-the-gut I have heard in person.
That day, Howard Hampton didn't hold back.

As a professionnal flak, I cringed. This was dangerous, off message and the media would not appreciate.

As a party activist, I couldn't help but think, right on, Howard.
Good on you. I was proud to be a New Democrat.
Many journalists didn't appreciate.

On the tour bus, one of them lashed out at me:

"That was bullshit. Complete bullshit," he said.

I replied, with a smile.

"He's passionate. He cares about the issues. Don't you care about the issues?"

That was the end of it.
You can watch @HowieHamptonNDP in action here.

I believe it was in answer to a question from @karinaroman1. She certainly didn't expect that answer.
And here we are today, when the *army* has to denounce the situation regarding seniors care, something Howard Hampton was trying to raise some 13 years ago.
