Are we about to open up this convo to how white birders treat Black birders or ....
As a #BlackBirder, I’ve had my presence completely ignored. I’ve walked up to groups of excited white birders to asked what theyre looking at. They’ll turn around, look at me like I’m lost, turn back around as if I don’t exist and chat amongst themselves
As a #BlackBirder, I’ve had white men try to quiz men on the details of birds I’ve seen. As if to verify that I know what I’m talking about
As a #BlackBirder I have white men explain to me how to identify a woodpecker by flight. This one particularly gets me upset. Sure it’s a useful tip but pal I’ve been doing this for a while. I learned that tip 6 years ago.
As a #BlackBirder, my ID’s are often second-guessed. Even when it’s a bird on my study site
As a #BlackBirder, I’ve been followed around by strangers who think I look suspicious… staring at bushes and telephone poles. I’ve had the cops called on me while working and birding. Stop calling the cops on black people.
A good way to make this black birder feel better would be to help me buy a camera so I can take better pics of birds cashapp: $youngbellz
