Tbh, I was kind of sad with the time skip that Furudate Sensei did when approaching the final arc in the manga. It felt kind of rushed, and it felt like sensei was trying to quickly end the series altogether.
Since the story felt more focused on the first years, (because tbh the five of them were given such indept character developments) I really wanted to see the first years have their own kouhais.
I also wanted to see a new face of Karasuno. At first I thought it was inevitable for sensei to never add new characters for Karasuno. It's either he would end the series with them winning Nationals or you know continue the story with a "New Karasuno".
But realistically speaking, with the way how everyone was... Karasuno wasn't that strong YET. So I really thought that sensei will never be able to progress the story without adding new players for Karasuno.
But you know...when I was re-watching the the earlier seasons again, it made so much sense. Haikyuu emphasized how every battle was the last. Furudate-Sensei introduced new schools with different strengths and weaknesses, each having their own story and why they fight.
This is why I felt so attached not just with the series but with all of the characters as well. It felt like it was going to be the last time that I'll ever see them play as a team.
Furudate-sensei will never let us see new faces of each school. Sensei knew that if sensei does that to the series, it will never be the same again. Nekomata-sensei emphasized this so much when he said this to Takeda-sensei.
I mean imagine seeing a Karasuno without their reliable captain, anxious ace, their mama sugawara and our Queen Shimizu. NO I CANNOT AND NEVER WILL!
That's why the time skip made so much sense because it immediately went back to where the story first started. Kageyama and Hinata being the ultimate rivals. Karasuno winning nationals was never the main goal of the story. It was always about these two
With Hinata having an amazing setter that can do minus tempo attacks, and monster spikers that can hit Kageyama's tosses, now they're both on equal grounds with teammates who have the same drive and passion for volleyball like them.
I mean Hinata being in Spain and training for beach volleyball is just telling us that Hinata isn't strong yet to face Kageyama on the other side of the court. He needs more time to stand against him on equal grounds.
So you know, Haikyuu was very well thought out. It's not just a sports anime. It's a series about growth and being hungry for that growth so that you'll be able to stand and fight without any regrets.
