It all happened when I was in SS1 (2007).
I used to be a phone freak and maybe I still am. Many of my classmates were all using phones Nec 3, Sagem My V55 and so on and I was left out.
I saved up some cash by going hungry most times and went to Computer village alone.

A thread
It was my first time there because people were always talking about how big and awesome the place is.
Dropped at the entrance seeing a lot of people. Local man was happy. My aim was to walk into a store to get the phone. I was with ₦8,000. You know how huge that money used to be
Walked a few metres and the next thing I heard was Fine boy... Student!.. Oh I forgot to tell you, I was on my school uniform. Back to the gist..
I heard Eiiiss... Sssiiiiiiii.... Fine boy.... See phone.. Very cheap.. The devil just whispered to me. Ayo, Ayo, check it out.
I schooled in Iganmode Grammar School ota. You know how far it is from Ikeja. Especially for a student.
Well back to my story jare.
Local man moved closer to the boys.
They were like See this Sony Ericsson K700i. I asked how much, and they said 4K. I was like eh.... ₦4,000?
They said yes.. I immediately paid the 4k
I was so happy to jump on the awoof!
And then, they asked for my sim and I dropped it. I started smiling feeling my fine Sony Ericsson phone.
With the joy in me, I didn't even ask for a receipt. I even recharged 200 naira airtime to buy data which was 20mb to download my favourite Craig David song.
Simcard used to be sold for 500-700 naira then! I was smiling like a goat not knowing I Don enter one chance! 😥
On my way out of the market, two guys approached me. Not just two guys, two hefty guys. They were like "Eiiiss stop there! Shey eti e di ni! I said stop there.
I stopped.
The guys :We are looking for a stolen phone, they said. Infact that phone you're pressing is stolen
I was like
Haaaa
Me?
Phone?
When?
Stolen?
But I just bought it.
They now told me to check the gallery and I'll find one picture there and they also told me the IMEI of the phone.
Then I checked and it was the same.
The next thing I heard was gbas gbos gbaas gbos gbish gbhuah
I was getting slaps from different angles.
I was crying so deep and my legs were shaking. Who will I run to. I don't know anyone here.
They started dragging me.
You know once they hear thief in Lagos, they don't want to know if you are a thief or not, they'll beat you to pulp.
Three people become 4, 4 became 10,
10 became.. I lost count.
Before I know what was going on.
Someone dipped his hand into my pocket and took out all the money I had left.
My uniform was torn.
My mind was floating already.
They started shouting that, they will teach me a lesson I'll. Never forget.
That they'll burn me.
I looked around again, the guys that approached me for stolen phone were no where to be found. I cried the more.
I had blood in my mouth.
They dragged me to one place like that.. And hitting me with wood.
I knew what it was like when you're a victim of jungle justice.
I couldn't talk. I. Was just stammering.
My mother's prayer finally got answered and I saw a police truck approaching.
They cleared the crowd and begged the crowd that I'm Just a little boy.
They took me to the station and I explained.
The next thing, one of them laughed.
He said I've been scammed that I should be thankful I wasn't even killed or too wounded.
They gave me some money to go back home.
On my way out of the computer village, I saw the same boys who sold the phone and the ones who blocked me for a stolen phone.
They were smiling..
Jeez.. I cried again and ran to the station that I've seen them. When they got there, I couldn't find them anymore.
I cried home.
When I got home, mom asked why is my cloth torn, I told. Them I was involved in a fight.
Mom beat me again.
The following day I fell sick
I didn't goto school for a week!
Finally I want to urge Y'all to stop judging based on one side of a story.
Listen to both parties even if it sounds evident and true.
Judging based on one side of a story has dragged a lot to untimely death by jungle justice, some are in prison, some are in trouble too.
Kindly correct any of my grammar if incorrect. It might be due to typing too fast or common mistakes in English 🙏.
