I've never once in my life had the police help me in any meaningful way.

I once interrupted a man beating his girlfriend. That man then attacked me with a hammer. When the police showed up, the refused to take my testimony and sent the ambulance away.

Once I was illegally evicted. I called the police and they told me it was a civil matter. When I cited the exact statue that made it something they had to act on, they snarled at me.

I have had violent neighbors they refused to act on. In Hollywood, they lied to me and told me that my neighborhood was handled by park police. It wasn't.

I'm a white dude and cops are totally useless to me. I can't think of anyone I know who has actually been helped by the police.

I'm all for disbanding the police. Because if your fear is armed people doing what they want to without any oversight or repercussions, cops aren't going to protect you from that. They're it. They're what you're afraid of.
