Already knew King is a POS but this is so much worse than I realized.
He’d randomly make employees sign NDAs, then fire them a month before their benefits were to kick in, meaning practically nobody who worked for him ever got insurance.

He denies this, claiming everyone who works for him gets covered 100% and has their coverage paid for 3 months after leaving, but multiple former employees confirmed. Apparently the only people who ever got insurance were people who refused to sign NDAs and thus weren’t fired.

This article is long, thoroughly researched, and contains quotes from interviews with countless former employees. It has exact numbers in it. It shows, in detail, many many times when Shaun King took advantage of people, compulsively lied, and threw people under the bus.

I don’t know if he’s evil. I don’t know if he’s a grifter and all of his schemes are just ways to line his pocketbook. But I do know that he’s incompetent, a narcissist, a compulsive liar, takes advantage of people, harasses women of color, abuses employees, a hypocrite, etc.

There are a lot of great advocates for disadvantaged people out there who actually show up. Who are not all talk and no action. Who don’t consistently use their large platform in extremely problematic ways – lying to promote their agenda, targeted harassment, etc.

As a white woman in 2020 I completely understand the desire to engage with activists of color. To make sure that I am listening to as many voices as I can.
But Shaun King shouldn’t be one of them.

I’m not going to do it here in this thread, because I don’t want to attach other poc activist names to him, as if they only exist as “not Shaun King”, but later on I’ll make a separate post of great poc accounts to follow.
