A recording is the difference between Christian Cooper being arrested, perhaps killed if he protested his innocence, and because of that arrest losing his job and his liberty and Amy Cooper being in trouble with society for making a false 911 call. She has not been arrested.
When people ask "why is every confrontation being recorded nowadays" they only reveal their deliberate ignorance. I saw deliberate because it takes a real effort to be unaware that police kill Black men without reason or consequence.
That recording that people try to claim is unnecessary is the only thing that protected him and all the other Black people who have been on the receiving end of the Carolyn Donhams of America. The white women who know their claims will be believed and weaponize them.
How many times have we seen white people call the police for no reason? How many times now have we seen white women claim to be in fear for their lives and act out a drama that they know could be fatal? Don't believe Amy Cooper's lies.
We saw her lying on that 911 call. We know she knew what she was doing because she told Christian Cooper exactly that, she was going to call the police to say an African American man was threatening her. Her knowledge is proven by her threat before she called.
She said to him, in essence, I am going to try to get you killed. He was calmer that I could be in that situation. Then she did it, exactly as she threatened. It was deliberate. She knew exactly what she was doing. She attempted murder and getting fired is a small punishment
I hate to criminalize any more behaviors, but it's time to criminalize "malicious summoning." Christian Cooper does not even have civil recourse, though he should. Of course, the police do have recourse if they choose. "Falsely reporting an incident" is an offense in NY.
As much as I hate criminalizing more things, I think it is long past time to begin arresting and charging the Carolyn Donhams like Amy Cooper with "Falsely Reporting an Incident"
We know people get prosecuted for fake 911 calls. Some guy in Brooklyn was prosecuted for calling about hipsters he didn't like. We know people get arrested for making false bomb threats. How is what Amy Cooper did different?
