my biases as paintings i love 🎨 — a thread
San as Olympia by Édouard Manet (1863)
Manet's Olympia is groundbreaking, to say the least. The confrontational gaze of Olympia feels very provocative, independent and pejorative even. The honesty and impact (of the painting on my senses) reminds me of San's aura on stage.
Youngjae as Café Terrace at Nigh by Vincent van Gogh (1888)
I think the usage of yellow and blue in this painting makes it stand out a lot. Every time I look at it I can't help but smile. Youngjae's vocal colour holds a similar warmth that engulfs the listener.
Nayeon as With My Back to the World (1997) by Agnes Martin
[I won't say much about the painting because it requires me to explain Martin's life and ideologies.] The painting needs you to invest yourself in it, despite its minimalism and Nayeon is the same as the centre of TWICE.
