My Dad - a decades long veteran of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care raises an uncomfortable point for us all.

He notes the media did stories and exposed horrors in long-term care for years.

And we the public, never made it an issue. We never pressed our politicians.
We never raised it in elections, and he could never understand why.

He says news.reporters did horrifying stories under every govt and every party, every year.

And we the public didn't respond with outrage. We let it go. The news media couldn't get our attention.
So, he says there's a lot of blame to go around.

And these horrors are not new by any stretch of the imagination.

That's his take for what it's worth.
(That's not a defence of the Ford govt, that's a broader historical perspective)
His larger point is Ontarians didn't care about old people.

So that's what we all have to grapple with beyond the politics.

We all have to resolve to do better by our old people.

(These are my Dad's thoughts, I just wrote them down for him after talking to him just now. I'm not wise and experiencd enough to have this perspective.)
