Everyone is hopeful of concerts being ramped up again. But what if we do distancing? And everyone wears masks? And maybe it’s only 50% cap? And drive-ins, and separate ticket holders? And fever checkers? All of this is possible, until you throw this on the table —-

Bathrooms
Capacity matters. Let’s say over a 2-1/2 show with 100 attendees, 75% go just once (which is way off -especially if it’s a beer show) but I digress.

75 going - 1 at a time x 3 minutes = 20 people per hour. Doesn’t even come close.
If you get 2 in per 3 minutes - you get there. But honestly 3 minutes is probably undercutting it/ difference between M/F bathrooms too.

Now, add in 6ft distanced lines of 10 people - you’d spend literally 30 minutes of your 2-1/2 hrs in that line. Probably the same for beer.
And that’s just for a 100 cap show. That’s a super small bar club at half cap. A venue that does 700-1200 at half cap running 400- 600?

The math is not good.
Did I mention loud music and alcohol? Yeah, cause that’s gonna play into this. Lines of increasingly pissy dudes who need to pee spouting off. Gals sneaking in together, people feeling rushed and not washing their hands. And is there a bathroom bouncer?

The math is not good.
Festivals are no better. Porta-pottys and the actual acreage needed to keep people distanced in line is a challenge at best. Disinfectants after every use? Surely, you jest. Again, start with 100 fans and try to make it work, it gets exponentially harder with each 100 fans.
Will clubs and venues try. Yes.
It will depend on municipal guidelines, just how they do it.
Will fans take a chance and go? Some, yes.
But it’s this grey area of cost to open (staff, etc.) and put on a show with a half empty room.
It will be easier for newly booked shows. A clean look at tickets and capacity and prep. The real problem is pre-sold shows still on the books that may fall under a capacity limits. How do you decide which tix to honor and which one to not?
