this is a thread on African cinema i would love to review / break down, but can't until you guys watch it!
1. Azali (2018), the story about a 14 year old girl sent away to evade an arranged marriage, beginning a harrowing journey of sex work and poverty in the slums of Accra. explores the politics surrounding sexual abuse, amongst many other issues in Ghana, available on Netflix.
2. Isoken (2017), a Nigerian film about a woman who's arranged to marry an Edo man, but ends up unexpectedly falling for a white man. lmao. i have thoughts. available on Netflix.
3. Atlantics (2019), the BEAUTIFULLY BREATHTAKING Senegalese film about the ghosts of workers who return to haunt the old neighborhood they worked in. available on Netflix.
The Wound (2017), a South African film which explores masculinity through the story of a closeted relationship between two men in the context of the Xhosa initiation ritual of Ulwaluko. very necessary
ending the thread with the Ghanaian Keteke (2017), the hilarious story of what happens to a couple expecting its first child when they miss a train into the city for delivery. starring @lydiaforson & Adjetey Anang. available on Netflix!
