This may be a long thread but bear with me. I do not believe there is Liberal #ElectionTwitter. More precisely, it is a divisive term, which unnecessarily creates a cleavage between people of different ideologies in this community in binary camps. It's not useful at all
ET should have people of every political ideology. People who support Biden. Those who support Trump. Never Trumpers. Bernie Bros. Libertarians. Independents. Everyone, and a term like Liberal Election Twitter can compromise all that
I do think the majority of people on Election Twitter are liberal, but everybody seems to be very open about it. I think I am open about my biases. At least I hope I am. And there is nothing wrong with it being majority left-wing as long as everybody is honest, which most ppl are
Maybe this is MY bias, but I oftentimes see a lot of people glomming onto singular polls like the Utah one with Trump up 3 there. It frustrates me this early on. This works both ways I saw many conservative people here glomming onto a MN poll with Trump down 5 or something
I have no real reason to discount any of these polls, but my gut is sensing this summer is shaping up to be like summer 2016, when there were a lot of polls of Clinton getting really close in red states and creates a lot of false confidence for Democrats
I can mock that 2016 Sabato map . It looks goofy in hindsight, but remember we were in an extremely volatile time. We had a historic level of undecided voters, and it was after the Access Hollywood tape. We were all in the dark, and honestly, many of those rating were justified
Nobody knew, for instance, how Mormons were going to swing, which justified the UT TOSSUP, ID LIKELY R, and AZ LEAN D ratings. Same thing with many other voting blocs like the traditionally Republican voting bloc of white women
And the thing about women is that they are the only demographic group that is a majority everywhere, from rural Wyoming to Manhattan
But this thread is not really about whether ID should have been LIKELY R or whatever. With that Sabato map, I was just making the point (maybe in an immature and non-insightful way) that there is a chance we may be entering the same pattern we saw in 2016
I really don't want to divide. I don't want to be a toxic presence here. Oftentimes I will want to push back and provide the contrarian election take. I will not stop doing that, but I want to try to do it in a respectful way in the future
And it's easy to get testy when my viewpoint is generally the minority one, but it doesn't mean I should be disrespectful to anyone or try to divide
