one of the most annoying things about explaining adhd to people is the skepticism that comes when you talk about your symptoms and your behaviors. the “i don’t have adhd and i do these things” line used to try and invalidate what you’re saying.
we all lose our keys, we all get really into things, we all stim, we all forget number and names and space out.

the key difference is how frequently do you do these things? do you know for a fact you never know where your keys are? like, ever?
i’m not “spacing out”, my brain is just a huge run on sentence; not accounting for the maladaptive daydreaming. holding conversations takes a lot energy bc I have to focus & retain information so others don’t think i’m uninterested which is hard to do with no executive function.
most of the time? when i’m talking to someone i AM HAVING ANOTHER CONVERSATION IN MY HEAD AT THE SAME TIME. DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW ANNOYING THAT IS WHEN I BARELY HAVE THE ABILITY TO HOLD THE ONE IM HAVING IRL? THE ONGOING MONOLOGUE IN MY HEAD IS NEVER QUIET until it is.
& then it’s quiet and i can’t do ANYTHING. It’s like static in my head and i don’t move or eat or emote. it’s like being underwater but you have to do things but your brain is just off so you just 🤷🏻‍♀️ until you accumulate enough anxiety to snap out of it? or you hyperfixate again?
EVEN THIS THREAD IS A MESS bc i tried to focus on one topic about adhd and my attention diverted to something else. POINT IS: yes, it is possible to relate to neurodiverse folk but understand that your occasional misstep is more of recurring permanent thing for others.
