Hours before this video came out:
— @MinneapolisPD did not say how George Floyd died.
— Never mentioned chokehold
This is what @MinneapolisPD said: "Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress." https://twitter.com/mukhtaryare/status/1265176544072302592">https://twitter.com/mukhtarya...

I hope the news media would stop using ambiguous and unclear language when describing events captured on video.
Words such as "police-involved death," "in-custody death" and "racially charged" don& #39;t really mean anything.

A community is suffering right now and traumatized by what it has seen.
Local media: You will never get that community& #39;s trust if you don& #39;t really capture what the video shows in your coverage/headlines.

I keep going back to @MinneapolisPD& #39;s initial statement, which doesn& #39;t tell us how George Floyd died but provides a detailed account of what he did.
We should all be careful about using the police version of events in our coverage following incidents like this.

. @MinneapolisPD left out key details in its statement about the killing of George Floyd.
Videos taken by bystanders are challenging official police versions of events, raising the question of what might have occurred had no cameras been around. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/26/us/george-floyd-minneapolis-police.html?smid=tw-share">https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/2...

Almost all of the city of Minneapolis departments come under one communications department, led by Greta Bergstrom.
As far as I can tell, @MinneapolisPD& #39;s communications department is the only one that has its own staff and spox person.
