There's a further question in my mind. Why did the Today programme give Mary Wakefield the Thought for the Day slot - supposed to be non-political, and generally reserved for God - to spout self-serving propaganda, verging on outright lies, about her husband?
The Today programme increasingly sounds like one big North London dinner party, with an in-crowd and an out-crowd.
I'm told it wasn't Thought for the Day, but another slot. The programme, just when we all need to hear it, has just been dropped from the BBC site. But @carolecadwalla saved part of it. What Mary Wakefield says does not mesh with her husband's account. https://twitter.com/carolecadwalla/status/1253970761028644864
