The greatest power a parent has over offspring is bestowing an identity with a name. It is a power Africans don't take lightly as they believe it is a daily proclamation that determines the destiny of the child. We always used to think the destiny part was a joke until racism.

We forget that our names are a narrative which is richer than what the racist has. The racist actually has less of an identity than the African. They typically have a history only of their rulers. We have histories of our families. The worst racist is the poor racist.

The poor racist has no identity, a pawn in the history of pawns. It is this quest for relevance and identity that makes them try to create a class lower than them by telling the people of color that they are inferior. Slavery was done largely by those seeking for new status.

”Nigger” was a slur they happily used to try to reaffirm that newfound superiority. ”Nigger” was used as a word to disarm and disempower. ”Nigger” was the bloodline not yet diluted by rape and violence until...”Nigger” became anyone with a market shade of skin.

After centuries, the black man took that word and turned it from a slur to a slang. It began to lose relevance rapidly as the black person was regaining a sense of identity and connecting with their heritage. Nigger became ”Nigga.”
