Kremlinology, get your Kremlinology here! There are four groups in the Tory party that are calling for Cummings to go - but some of them should worry Downing Street more than others: https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/elections/2020/05/four-conservative-groups-want-dominic-cummings-out-and-two-matter
There's group one, who have personal or ideological objections to Cummings and/or the direction of the government. To lose Cummings is to end lockdown and avert the government's (real? perceived?) leftward shift on economics: https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/elections/2020/05/four-conservative-groups-want-dominic-cummings-out-and-two-matter
Group two, select committee chairs who thanks to David Cameron's best single change in office are now accountable to the whole of Parliament. They are incentivised to at least flirt with their swing voters AKA opposition MPs: https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/elections/2020/05/four-conservative-groups-want-dominic-cummings-out-and-two-matter
Of course, what groups one and two have in common is that they are broadly irreconcilable, don't have sufficient numbers to defeat the government, and IMV Downing Street shouldn't worry too much about them: https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/elections/2020/05/four-conservative-groups-want-dominic-cummings-out-and-two-matter
Group 3 are the single biggest problem that Downing St's agenda faces for the next four years - are men who were elected in 2015 and are seeing women and the new intakes promoted over their heads. They are increasingly vocal, because why wouldn't you be? https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/elections/2020/05/four-conservative-groups-want-dominic-cummings-out-and-two-matter
But Group 4 are the most worrying light on the dashboard: loyalists in marginal seats who are kicking off. When they kick off it's a good sign that there is a real, serious problem afoot. https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/elections/2020/05/four-conservative-groups-want-dominic-cummings-out-and-two-matter
