Seriously for a minute though - if you'd asked me like 7 years ago who my comedy heroes were - Linehan would've been up there. I adored everything he'd worked on. He was the comedy writer I wished I could be. (1/13)
And when your comedy hero repeatedly and aggressively denies your existence and rights, that's absolutely fucking heartbreaking. I was kind of growing out of his work anyway when I found out he was a massive TERF, but it still hurts. (2/13)
Graham Linehan has gone from being an inspiration to comedy writers all over the country, to a sad lonely bigot who tweets abuse at marginalized groups under the guise of feminism and social justice. (3/13)
That being said, I want to shout out to all the Trans people working in comedy today who deserve all the love and recognition that teenage Jonny wasted on Linehan. (4/13)
@BeffernieBlack is a cultural icon in my eyes. I've only seen her live twice, and both times I was lucky to have been gigging with her. She is a fucking goddess of stand-up and a real force for good in the world. (5/13)
@aedison is another person I have had the privilege to share the stage with on several occasions before I came out - and if you're not already following her on twitter then why do you even have twitter? Fix that now. She's incredible. (6/13)
@Talldarkfriend is a delightfully smutty and recent addition to the comedy scene - and she's fucking smashing it. Talented bitch. (7/13)
@ScarletHatesYou runs one of the best queer gigs in the country, and does incredible work for platforming queer and trans comedians who I would not have heard of it it wasn't for their gigs. (8/13)
@UmbyWinters Is legit one of my favourite people in the world - let alone comedians. Everything they say and do brings joy to the world, and I would be very surprised if they are not the face of enby comedy in a few years. (9/13)
@QuenbyCreatives Is a queer after my own heart - making performance nights accessible to as many people as possible and platforming a delightful array of the queer spectrum in safe spaces that are rare in this industry. (10/13)
@benton_media Let's not forget about trans men - 'cause Linehan and his supporters sure as hell do. Despite being mad at how Ben manages to be so good at comedy so young - he is an absolute delight and asset to the comedy scene both on stage and behind the scenes. (11/13)
@AvALiversidge Is the comedian I want to be. Effortlessly surreal, and every time I see her perform I can't get her sets out of my head for literal months afterwards. (12/13)
And there are countless more - apologies if I've forgotten you - there's no doubt I'll be amending this continuously as I think of more people! So yeah - these and people like them are the people you should be supporting and looking up to. Fuck Glinner, and fuck terfs. (13/13)
