1/ The @ARealityEvent (AWE) started this morning.
I'll share a few virtual conference thoughts in this thread.
User chat, but no virtual hallway.
There's 3 concurrent livestream videos for registered users.
The main stage is livestreamed here: https://www.awexr.com/
More below
2/ @ARealityEvent founder @comogard opened AWE by playing a pre-recorded, speculative video with a very techno-optimistic vision of the future from the perspective of 2030 (companies compete over privacy).
The transcript of his predictions are posted here
https://www.awexr.com/blog/272-awe-2020-opening-keynote-a-spatial-new-world
3/ The first 2 @ARealityEvent mainstage talks didn't have time for any questions ( @Qualcomm Qualcom & @GoogleATAP), but the @the8thwall talk did leave some time for some interactive Q&A. They announced facial effects & a vision for how WebXR on the immersive web will shape future
4/ There's a number of Side Events happening in VR throughout @ARealityEvent over the next four days in @MuseumOR, @vreducation, @exokitXR, @AltspaceVR, @glue_collab, @MozillaHubs

Full Schedule is here:
https://www.awexr.com/usa-2020/agenda?date=2020-05-26&location=VR+Side+Events
5/ There's a 3-day Immersive Art Symposium as a @ARealityEvent VR Side Event starting at 12:30p PDT today in the @MuseumOR produced by @JesseDamiani in partnership with @KaleidoVR.

6/ Back on May 19th, @voidvr sent an email update after being closed for two months. They seemed optimistic that they would have some more details & dates for a potential re-opening, but it's still an open question for how location-based entertainment will navigate COVID-19.
7/ @ILMxLAB & @Marvel unpacked their experiential design process for Avenger's DAMAGE CONTROL @voidvr experience at #awe2020. They said LBE could still be a important outlet to innovate on immersive storytelling, but paused during COVID-19.
Story trailer:
8/ Interesting to hear about the pandemic trends in entertainment.
Entertainment is a booming industry during COVID-19.
XR & immersive entertainment is seeing a boost.
Authenticity is trumping production value.
@jakezim said The Match 2 golf match had betting lines on screen.
9/ Checking out #awe2020 sponsor pages behind the conference paywall.
Some sponsor pages have a button called "Enter Virtual Trade Show Booth" leading to a page to "Join Live Meeting," which starts a Zoom call.
I found 10 companies w Virtual Booth ( @HP)

10/ @CharlieFink just launched a preview version of his latest book "Remote Collaboration & Virtual Conferences," pre-sale of final version starts in a week.
He's presenting at #AWE2020 in @VRSpaces with his @loom_ai avatar.

11/ A panel discussion on virtual conferencing & remote collaboration platforms with Jussi Havu of @glue_collab, @obriend17 of @htc enterprise, Alex Howland of @VirBELA1, & @anandx of @spatialxr.

Here's my @LavalVirtual coverage & thread in @VirBELA1

12/ @the8thwall launched Face Effects today, you can try them out here:
https://8w.8thwall.app/face-effects/
It's nice to see a web-based solution. It's already possible to use Snap Camera to pipe face filters into Zoom, & now you can make your own & use OBS + OBS-VirtualCam as a Zoom input.
13/ There's a "Want to Meet" button in #awe2020 that's a high-friction way of cold calling folks to meet up at a specific time.
Without a persistent hallway, this is the best way to meet up aside from VR side events or sponsor Zoom calls.
This sets up a Zoom call if they agree.
14/ There's no persistent hallway here at #awe2020, and the "Expo" part of Augmented World Expo also isn't the same when you can't actually try things.
A lot missing from 2D abstraction.
Feels a bit ghostly.
I'm hopping into @MuseumOR room code awe1 now: https://twitter.com/JesseDamiani/status/1263885600479801344
15/ Technical difficulties with @MuseumOR with not everyone is seeing the presentation slides for the Immersive Art Symposium #awe2020.
It may migrate to a flat Zoom call, or move another day.
Follow @JesseDamiani for the latest updates & details.

16/ Tech difficulties with @MuseumOR means that the Immersive Art Summit will be moving to Zoom for today. Check out @JesseDamiani's Twitter for updates on the timing & links.
