dear stan twt: i learned something from a psychiatric conference i attended a few months ago and think itā€™s the perfect time to share this -
one of the workshops i had attended was on social media and its impact on mental health. one of the points addressed was fomo or ā€œfear of missing outā€, a form of anxiety that something exciting/interesting may be happening, therefore making one spend countless hours online.
in the moment, you may be overcome with adrenaline and feelings of temporary euphoria but in the long run, fomo is proven to lead to things such as low self esteem and may influence long term goals one sets for themselves in life and negatively impacting oneā€™s overall mood.
it may also instill the false belief of dependence, that your life as you know it depends on this ā€œconnectionā€ you have with whatever it may be youā€™re afraid of missing out on. now iā€™m not a specialist or anything and i canā€™t diagnose every single person on stan twt-
-but i personally related to that concept at some point in my life. seeing things on my tl today like ā€œif bts disbands then whatā€ or ā€œif theyā€™re gone then iā€™m goneā€ are very serious comments to make. you should be able to have a life outside of bts and iā€™m not telling you to-
-stop being a fan. what iā€™m saying is inevitably, there will be a time when stanning bts will be a beautiful memory for us all. we should learn to make ā€œstanningā€ a part of who we are but not who we are as a whole. things that can help with this may include taking small breaks-
-when needed and evaluating oneā€™s own priorities. again, iā€™m not telling anyone what they should and should not do. this is just something i thought i should share and add my two cents on. hope you all have a great day :)
