We literally live in a society that idolizes humans and then cancels them when they do something wrong. All humans make mistakes right? So should we work on "cancel" rules for people to follow.....or should we stop idolizing humans maybe?
I will never justify/defend unjust/disrespectful actions. What I'm saying is...why are we so damn surprised to find out people have made mistakes before? Like celebrity or fame gives someone better human skills.
For sure, having/using a platform that influences people through media is a responsibility. But having a platform doesn't make you less prone to mistakes. And it damn sure doesn't give you any more of an ability to outrun your past.
The problem I continually see is that a lot of people see celebrities/award winners/musicians/athletes/social influencers with a golden halo. It sets unrealistic standards and expectations on both sides.
We have an opportunity right now to reset how we have been going about things. Why is our first reaction to CANCEL someone? Any mistake made is an opportunity to walk away with a LESSON.
So what are we LEARNING by canceling people? What are we teaching our children? We will raise kids in a society that tells you to aim high for the "American dream", but don't get caught slippin or that's your as*.
And what are the canceled people learning? We just banish the mistake makers from society until we want to deal with them again? Or until they serve a purpose for us? Hmm? I'm actually trying to entertain a line of thought where this works out well for US.
