Okay so apparently some of y’all don’t know the genius behind the Arts & Crafts/Pre-Raphalite movement and one of the most under appreciated pre-raphalite artists - hold my beer

This is William Morris, a textile artist, novelist & poet born in 1834. These are my two favorite portraits of him. Quite the woodsy looking fellow isn’t he?
While he is known for being a dystopian writer (see “News from No Where) he is best known for his work in textile. You may recognize these textile fabrics he was famously known for along with his company Morris & Co. Here is his most famous design, The Strawberry Thief

Here are some of my other favorite pieces. They were known for their intricacy and color - they’re playful, amusing, and just all around fun to look at
You know all of those paintings you love of medieval women? Lady of Shallot, Prosophine, Ophelia? These come from members Pre-Raphalite Brotherhood (a group our man William formed!) they yearned to bring chivalry back into society & adored the romanticism of the medieval period
The Pre Raphalites in general are fascinating not only because of the art they created, but their personal lives. It seemed they shared everything from models to themes, even lovers! I highly recommend exploring them, especially my personal fav WM (Aldous Huxley is a close 2nd)
This isn’t like a fantastic thread - it’s a slow Tuesday - but William Morris is a rad dude - and I def think he and his friends are worth exploring more!
