my dad has worked in an amazon warehouse for many years, i can share some of his experiences and photos during the coronavirus: https://twitter.com/ragesinggoddess/status/1264955225628119047
2/ this is the entrance, every shift starts with a temperature check. they also have a fuckton of masks apparently, i have asked my parents multiple times if they need any but my dad just says he has a bunch from work. gloves and hand sanitizer everywhere
4/ this is the break room, self explanatory. my favorite part is the wall art that just says “have backbone”
5/ my dad has a temporary role on the “safety social distance action team.” just a few people walk around all day and tell people to keep their masks on and stay distant. this sounds easy but the warehouse is huge so he walks like 10-15 miles a day (thank you knockoff fitbit)
7/ benefits breakdown. clarifying that he worked 55hrs but he gets paid as if it is 70, because overtime (extra 15 on top of the regular 40) is paid double. (regularly 1.5x). Also noting the $2 hazard pay is set to expire soon and there has been no announcement of continuation!!!
8/ He actually increased from 55 to 60hrs a few weeks ago (the tweet above was an old text), though i don’t believe that hours increase is mandatory for all workers
by “vacation” here he means UNPAID time off, often referred to as "UPT" if you've seen protesters use that phrase

9/ sorry generic photo of the warehouse floor just to put things in perspective, i don't have any photos from my dad bc phones are banned from that area, altho i believe during COVID-19 amazon lifted that rule? anyway
10/ also clarifying usually they have 30 mins lunch and two 15-min breaks, but the breaks have been temporarily extended to 20. i will note that almost every employee complains breaks are too short bc the warehouse is so big, you spend half of it just walking to the break room
11/ my dad’s warehouse has had 5 cases of coronavirus (as of like a week ago)
(This is an old screenshot from April back when there was only one!!!!)

13/ I love my dad but he is very macho and thinks he’s invincible so when he says something is easy it is probably like…. regular pace. if he is tired you know that shit is really tiring
also this text is from early April so it's actually been ~12 weeks?

i am only sharing what my dad has told me or else this thread would be way too long, there are 100000x more, worse stories. i’ll add more links below
insert random photo of my parents that i love bc it reminds me of that meme of the rock

After protests for more UPT, hazard pay, etc, Amazon fired several workers for speaking out. 7 employees have died so far, estimates say 800 have the virus. https://www.theverge.com/2020/5/14/21259474/amazon-warehouse-worker-death-indiana
This is a pre-pandemic story, but one of the best out there on the horrible working conditions and injuries that employees face https://www.revealnews.org/article/behind-the-smiles/
9 Amazon Workers Describe the Daily Risks They Face in the Pandemic
my dad is very lucky he got that mask patrol position but others with more human contact (delivery drivers) and physical demand (pickers) have it much harder https://www.wired.com/story/amazon-workers-pandemic-risks-own-words/
