1. If all goes according to plan, my film @TheOutpostMovie, based on @jaketapper best seller will premiere in theaters July 2nd. . I feel a kind need to explain why this date is so meaningful to me. So if you could kindly indulge me this thread...
2. #THEOUTPOST deals with Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV who, on October 3, 2009 fought what was probably the most heroic battle of the Afghanistan War. 54 men took on hundreds of Taliban. Eight men lost their lives and two others received the Medal of Honor.
3. The film was a bear to put together - years in the making. We settled on shooting in Bulgaria. At end of June of 2018, as I began the film, My mother called me from the USA to tell me that my son HunterLurie was in a hospital in Michigan. (there for a music fest).
4. A nurse in a hospital in Muskegon told me Hunter "isn't going to make it." A battering ram. It seems he'd been revived after not having a heart beat for eight minutes. His mom, my wife, my daughter were on their way there.
5. I traveled 12 hours not knowing what was happening. But when I got there my boy was still alive but hooked up to myriad machines. My family and Hunter's girlfriend was there playing him music.
6. The entire medical team made it clear he was more or less already gone. It was up to me and his mom when to remove him from the machines. We did that close to midnight on July 1st.
6. At that moment my daughter Paige told me that I had to return to Bulgaria to finish THE OUTPOST. Hunter, God he LOVED film, would be destroyed if he knew everything was scuttled because of him. And as his chest lifted and fell for the last time I realized...
8. ...that he was the same age as the men who died in the Battle of Kamdesh.
9. Their names: Stephan Mace, Michael Scusa, Kevin Thomson, Vernon Martin, Josh Hardt, Josh Kirk, Justin Gallegos, Christopher Griffin. They are known as the "Elite Eight". Their courage and actions on October 3rd, 2009 are forever embedded in history.
10. I felt, as he lay dying, a kinship with the families of these men. Hunter was pronounced dead at 12:21 AM on July 2nd, 2018
11. 8. I spent the next months preparing the movie - we had budget cuts, casting issues, our lead actor ScottEastwood broke his ankle - which completely blew up our schedule...
