But don’t fear. She’s not Ogbanje.
It’s a medical condition.
It’s called PoTS.

PoTS stands for Postural (orthostatic) tachycardia syndrome.

In this medical condition, there is an abnormal increase in heart rate that occurs after suddenly sitting up or standing from a lying position.

The sudden abnormal increase in heart rate can cause people to pass out.

There was a British lady who had this condition. It was in the newspapers sometimes ago.

Anything that caused her excitement and increased her heart rate made her faint.

If she laughed too hard, na faint.
If she had sex, na to faint.
It’s not a joke at all and it’s very real.

So who can have PoTS?

PoTS can affect everyone.
But it is commonest in ladies 15-50 years old.

Many people only have mild symptoms, but others may find that PoTS makes their life very difficult and scary (both for them and their partners).

Imagine fainting everytime you nack.

So what should you do if you dey with babe who has PoTS:
•Let her come down from your preek
•Lie her down flat on the bed/floor
•Raise both legs up (put it on pillows)

Give her a few minutes.
As soon as the blood flows back to her brain, she would regain consciousness back.

Very important:
As you lie her down flat:
•Look at her chest- is she breathing?
•Put your hand on her neck/chest- does she have heartbeat?
•Put your cheeks close to her nose/mouth- is she breathing?

If she is breathing and have a heartbeat,
Give her time. Do NOT panic at all.

If she’s not breathing,
If she has no heartbeat,
Start CPR and chest compressions,
Call an ambulance, Get her to the hospital. That’s a heart attack.

PoTS is NOT a heart attack.

But obviously IF you find it difficult to tell the difference, just take her to the hospital ASAP.
