The claim that he was specifically and explicitly warning about coronavirus is part of this distancing. That’s why he would take the risk of a late edit.

It’s not just that he wanted to make things clear, or that he wanted to tidy up his blog, or anything else. It’s a bigger plan to shift the blame away from himself. Selfish, arrogant and egotistical - and career-protecting.

It’s classic history-rewriting, in a subtle way, a ‘nudging’ way, to put him on the right side of history, given how badly the whole plan has gone.
