Dr K did a reddit AMA 1-2 years ago saying he was a Harvard psychiatrist studying video game addiction

He got thousands of emails that read:
"help me, no one else can"

And that's exactly right. The mental health system is failing almost everyone by ignoring 'spirituality'

What pill do you give a video game addict to treat their depression and get them motivated and productive to suffer the rest of their life in a hopeless capitalist system that grinds them into dust?

They already spent 18 years in school learning not to trust themselves.

Turns out video game addicts tend to be smarter than average
In school, if you get your work done quickly and correctly — you don't get more+harder work to do.
You aren't challenged at your ability.

When you beat the first level of a game, you can immediately play the second

They learn from an incredibly young age that school/institutions are bullshit and will never fulfill them.

Might as well only put in 20% effort, because thats good enough for a B.

You could work 80% harder and get A's, but why?

So school is bullshit. Procrastination is the mechanism of efficiency we use deal with school being bullshit. Video games give challenge. Focus is enjoyable. Games fulfill an unmet spiritual/intellectual need.

Then the real kicker. Video games suppress emotions

The gamer was told constantly during their formative years that they are super smart and talented. Which boosted ego and convinced them they had a great future in store — but they cant see a future worth living.

Then feel ashamed for not doing great things. Need games to cope
6
So now you're stuck gaming. Disillusioned from the real world. Games are your primary source of challenge and reward. Of focus and fun. Socializing. Friendship

And you can't stop bc then you would have to feel all your negative emotions. theres nothing in the real world anyway
7
So, what pill do you give to this person to fix their problem? How do you treat their mental health disorder?

They don't have one. (maybe they also do, but w.e)

They learned how to survive a maladaptive school system, which subsequently made them useless to society.
8
Gamer's aren't actually useless though. They learned insanely valuable skills from video games.

But gamers need help applying themselves, finding a life worth living, and dealing with the negative emotions theyve suppressed and let overflow.

Enter HealthyGamer.

HealthyGamer is the first person I've ever seen take these problems seriously.

Instead of saying: "grow up and get a job you fucking pathetic neckbearded useless virgin losers",

he said: "holy fuck so many people are struggling and need help"
10
As it turns out, its not just gamers who struggle with this shit. Its everyone. The mental health crisis exists because religion was useless at teaching spirituality to smart people.
More smart people are suffering than ever, desperate for spirituality, and dont even know it
It's important to say HealthyGamer/Dr K is a scientist. Hes not on some hippy stuff tellin people love will set them free, or to worship god

He sticks to what he can prove—BUT—He demonstrates to people how profoundly distrustful we are of our subjective experiences of reality
We have answers within us, if only we would listen. And if only we knew how.

+ he has put out so so so so much insanely valuable and practical information in the form of "not therapy sessions" on twitch, as well as focused webinars/lectures.
