The ugly truth is my ex called me a nigger and it hit me on a deeper level bc I realized I didn’t have a strong sense of identity. I’m a black man in America. My history growing up and throughout school started at slavery. From 1619 to 1865 we were considered property.

As black men if you can’t identity your roots before slavery we should make it a point to know who we are and where we come from. Some of our roots never came from slavery. We could be natives and never know.
