This is just a random thought on an issue that I have a lot of interest in when it comes to the teaching and learning process.
There are many stakeholders when it comes to the education and development of children but the most important three are the teachers, the parents and the learners themselves.
Now you need all three of these stakeholders to do their part if you want to achieve your goal of making sure the teaching and learning process is conducted with good or high quality.
Now the teacher to learner ratio in many of our public schools out there is probably 1:50, this means for every one teacher, there are around 50 learners.
Now if I have 50 learners in my class, and I use a specific approach of teaching and it works for about 30 of the learners, I am them left with 20 who are adapting slowly to my approach. Out of these 20, I then identify 10 and I use the scaffolding technique to get them on track.
By now I& #39;m exhausted and the other 10 learners are probably left behind. Not intentionally, but only because I& #39;m human and I can only deal with so much.
Think about it, your child might be one of those 10 but you wouldn& #39;t know. Why? That& #39;s because you& #39;re probably not doing your part in the process. This makes you a parent who& #39;s not involved in their child& #39;s education.
What then happens?
Well, your child gets to my grade 10 class and I realize that he/she can& #39;t read, write and execute class instructions. What do I do now? It is basically very late to fix something that could& #39;ve been fixed 5-10 years earlier if the parent just played a more involved role.
You could& #39;ve picked up these problems at home and consulted the teacher, but no, you were too busy for your child.
Your child will now become a statistic, something that could& #39;ve been prevented if it was picked up earlier.
The point of this thread is to show you that all stakeholders, especially the parents, need to do their part in the education of our children
