As the nonbinary identity category continues to develop in-group memes, aesthetics, norms, and other cultural markers (while insisting that this isn’t happening)

what do you suppose will be the term for people who are not men, women, or nonbinary?

đŸ€”đŸ’
what is nonbinary? I would have been in a relevant category in the 90s but not today.
if this category were being culturally formulated differently today, I would be in it
this is a difficult topic because everyone keeps talking as if gender categories are fixed and not culturally emergent
I get into circular conversations whenever I talk about this

bc every time, someone says I should leave the convo about nonbinary to nonbinary people

but the whole reason I’m not one of “nonbinary people” is that the category has been culturally marked this way & not another
for good reason, I think people get scared when I talk about this, that I’m trying to take their identity away or say it’s wrong

but I’m trying to say something about how cultural markers can make categories feel wrong or unavailable, even when their textbook definitions fit
I certainly am the wrong fit for any event or group calling for “women & nonbinary folks,” for example, and should remain the wrong fit — culturally, I’m not what they’re looking for

& yet my gender is not quite the same as cis gay men’s

so am I in the nonbinary category???
I’m saying the opposite of “nonbinary isn’t real.”

Nonbinary is so real that it’s too culturally specific for me to be part of the category!
TL;DR: goth faggots are not part of contemporary gender discourse
