How do we get out of this mess? Tracing #coronavirus cases is hard. It& #39;s been politicized. But it& #39;s essential.
It may not work, "but given the lack of alternatives, we have to try.” Here& #39;s how. By me for @NatGeo https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/05/coronavirus-contact-tracing-covid-19-complex-health-investigation/">https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2...

Grateful for the wisdom/insight/patience from @BhadeliaMD @mlipsitch @ashishkjha @eperakslis @BBrunjes @SaskiaPopescu @JenniferNuzzo @PIH @HealthyBoston @uwsph @UVA https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/05/coronavirus-contact-tracing-covid-19-complex-health-investigation/">https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2...
“We get people to tell us who their public contacts are when they have syphilis. We know how to do this.”
But the idiosyncrasies of #COVID19—and the polarization of this peculiar American moment—make this the most complex health investigation in history. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/05/coronavirus-contact-tracing-covid-19-complex-health-investigation/">https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2...

"Things people are trying to do passively, with phone apps, aren’t the same as active contact tracing,” says @eperakslis. "It’s not the same as interviewing people… making sure they have food or medicine." It& #39;s not apples/oranges. It& #39;s "not even comparing apples to pork chops”
A few lawmakers—in LA, MN, WA—have demonized tracing. Some fret abt cost or see it as a barrier to reopening. Some see a way to attack political rivals. One state had to issue a statement batting down rumors that tracing could lead to forced quarantines. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/05/coronavirus-contact-tracing-covid-19-complex-health-investigation/">https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2...
