Something that stands out to me about the Amy Cooper affair is that what she tried to do (using the power of the carceral state to settle petty personal disputes) is not uncommon *at all*
Hell, it's enshrined in law in many places. What do y'all think "victim's rights" laws actually do? How about private warrants?
If you're wondering, my pinned tweet discusses what private warrants are and how they work. https://twitter.com/Don_Zeko/status/1161090214942711808?s=19
I have many, many clients who are charged with crimes entirely because one person (a neighbor, their ex's new partner, whatever) said they committed a crime that left no physical evidence and that nobody else saw or heard.
These people get found guilty and punished all the time. If we're rightfully horrified at what Cooper did, then maybe we should change the system so that thousands of Amy Coopers can't get exactly what they want every day.
