1. If he doesn’t bottle it for a fourth time, PM is due to finally appear before @CommonsLiaison to answer detailed questions from select committee chairs. Here’s a thread on why that matters but what No10 likely to do to try to scupper it
2. Sending yet another excuse would be inexcusable but even though Govt saw to it that there was no meaningful election because the rules were changed & only one candidate for chair, PM should not expect an easy ride from my successor
3. More likely that they will try to scupper it by putting out a showy announcement. Remember being told PM had to leave Ctee bang on time for an appointment with Queen, we obliged, only to find it was to leave and sack Gavin Williamson. All news then about that instead
4. Suggest PM uses this as an opportunity to sack Cummings. As they say, everyone can be useful, even if it’s just to be an horrible example
5. Trouble for PM is that he doesn’t do detail but it would be awkward to have to have Cummings at his shoulder to pass notes under the circumstances & not least as he was found in contempt of Parliament for refusing to appear before a select ctee @CommonsDCMS
Should clarify, the Williamson story related to the former PM, but at least Theresa May turned up, Johnson never kept his promise made during his leadership campaign to appear
Scrutiny & accountability matter. @CommonsLiaison works best when chairs work together to coordinate their questions, keep them short & relevant & then follow up on detail
8. Clearly can’t all be about Cummings but it does matter that PM has put an advisor’s career above protecting public health by fatally undermining his own policy & making it unenforceable. 2nd wave now looks inevitable so @CommonsLiaison should explore how he will get a grip
9. Also hope to hear questioning on impact of No-Deal Brexit, Irish border checks but plenty of unfinished business ... chairs may also raise Nolan principles/ Arcuri case or important foreign policy issues eg Hong Kong
