First bike journey to go shopping where I would have traditionally taken the car. bearing in mind things will get easier as I get more 'experienced' but here are a few observations.

1) the car would have been quicker but probably not by much. Bike parking right outside the shops
2) I had 4 'chores' to do. I specifically saved them up where I wouldn't have hesitated to jump in the car 4 times beforehand. No shop was less than 2k away

3) I need better panniers. My floppy ones are hard to carry by hand in the shop and get in the way on the bike.
4) Infrastructure is poor. Cycle lanes littered with stones, glass and badly repaired holes. Lots of hanging vegetation, bushes & trees too. No car issues

5) a roof over bike parking would be nice.

5) it's hot, I got sweaty. I would have preferred no helmet but that's my choice
6) I spent less. Limited capacity meant I very much stuck to essential items. Will absolutely continue with one big weekly shop by car.

7) I'm not getting rid of the car (after 1 bike trip!) but will 100% continue on the bike. Stick at it & I'd guess my car use will drop 50%.
8) Finally, I understand I live in an urban area with good access to shops of all types within a few KM. A 5k cycle would probably be my limit but time & experience might extend that.
