I have said this before ..but made a "suited" over "Christmas hat" comeback when my old retired to Canary Islands MD suggested we get together for one last swansong freight forwarding/customs agency to make hay for a couple of years to top up our pensions; to take advantage of
hopeless lack of supply to meet the HUGE new demands for EU trading businesses..many of which trading with EU only SMEs esp will be desperate for help (so many still ignorant of what is coming). A deferment account was the priority. He has the funds for the guarantee (rich git).
but I'm bowing out until UK asks for its extension. I cannot cope with the fuckwittery of this Gov & its imbeciles/sychophants/c*nts, or the (not even a good actor) svengali that's in charge so much beyond reproach (with people *still* excusing or supporting him). It *is* because
of Coronavirus that we decided to abandon our plans this year after succeeding in just one meeting in Leeds, along with our HS Codes/Ops master now retired in Yorkshire, at the end of February (good to be back in Whitelock's with a pint of Old Pec after so long). We figured with
the bandwidth lost and strained supply chains/adversely impacted hauliers/pulled air routes etc (inc our inability to leave our locked down homes to revisit unlocked down plague UK) would mean either an (expected) extension OR no extension & the shitstorm being too great
with no time to *adequately* prep...it'd just not be worth the stress. We know of others thinking of bringing forward (semi) retirement from the industry for similar reasons. UK would be left with very top heavy set of novices dealing with unimaginable customs & regulatory issues
As more are now openly stating it *will* (not 'could' nor 'claimed') be impossible for UK to be logistically & adequately customs trained ready for life outside the SM/CU rules for 1/1/2021...not least of course for the UK's new internal trading border. It does worry me so much
that UK is in the grip of crazed ideologues seemingly intent (even now openly saying) to "bury" the no deal effects in the Covid-19 effects...they obviously have not got a clue of the extent of the damage (or more sinisterly they, 'disaster capitalism at its very finest,' do),
but there is nothing I can do but let off steam on here. I will be doing that with more time in the pool and at the beach bars now that Cyprus has contained CV19 ready to open its airports on 9th June (but not to Brits sadly). Not enough journalists have taken enough interest in
the (what often seems like nobody has learned) logistics/customs crisis coming, but for those that don't already follow @pmdfoster you should. He has been the best for years in taking interest in the critical matter. @Joe_Mayes more recently is doing a great job too. You must all
follow @AnnaJerzewska and @BastidonPauline for the more 'diplomatic' news...For the less diplomatic follow ex customs officers @Petie42885201 @AnniHawk @Lady_stormrider @paulj71 @markrowantree For freight forwarding @LeftPeggers @jordonfreight @JVSwallow @MonkdWallydHonq
@AL_vonB , (airfreight) @andyblatch64 , (van driver) @donnyc1975 .....for trading law @SamanthaMalin (who has been open mouthed like me since 2016) ..for NI specifically @MichaelAodhan @Freight_NI @LloydClark1 (said for a long time NI "zero chance" being operationally ready 2021)
I will continue to 'look in' ready for the extension...until then here's hoping y'all there avoid the second (bigger) spike and holidays in Blackpool/Margate etc..we're off for a couple of Keo beers and a tourist free beach 😋.
