My grandfather passed away yesterday and I want to honor his memory by sharing some of the wonderful things he imparted on me that made me who I am:
- an appreciation for math
- a love of gardening
- the beauty of nature & science
- compassion
- an interest in investing
- culture

He was a highly respected doctor in his community. A hard worker, avid bird watcher, kind soul, a stern but compassionate disciplinarian.
He began teaching me algebra when I was 5 with chocolate when I got questions right.
Every year we made sand castles together on the beach.

When I wanted a Nintendo, he read up on video games and determined they could help children with hand-eye coordination as well as problem solving. And he got me one for my birthday.
He always encouraged learning and it felt like he knew how to solve any problem.

He was always frugal and humble, except on vacations.
He took me into the city when I was little; we stayed at the Four Seasons, saw broadway shows, went to the museums, saw the sights, ate like kings, and had a lot of laughs.

Years later, I was able to return the favor when he would visit me in the city. I got to be the one to take him to the museums, show him new sights, and take him out to new restaurants.
And he was proud of the work I was doing in the city.

Although he hasnât been fully there for years now, itâs still painful to know I wonât ever see him again.
I love you papa, you will be missed.
