many sources define it as "a self-report inventory designed to identify a person's personality type, strengths, and preferences". the way i see it, mbti doesnt define your personality, but how you communicate with the outer and inner world

what im trying to say with this is that two people can have the same mbti type and not be the exact same person because humans are a little bit more complex than 16 personalities, okay? with that out of the way...

you might think im mean but the thing is 16personalities is a very simple way to understand mbti. it focuses on individual letters rather than in the cognitive functions (we'll get to this in a bit)

16p takes a very simple approach to what mbti actually is and while their descriptions for each type are correct more often than not the results are extremely flawed. it makes it look like enfps and enfjs are very similar when in reality they don't have similar functions at all
while i call myself stupid most of the time im not and i know why it's so popular and suddenly every kpop idol is taking that damn quiz. it's very simple and very accesible. it's like that annoying cousin that has good intentions but keeps messing everything up
mbti has helped me to understand myself better that's why im passionate about it. the way 16p works is just hsdhfs most ppl think they're infp because it's the most "neutral" type so if you're an introvert and you have feelings congrats you're an infp according to 16p
before you say it yes this is complicated yes this is not that fun im so sorry but it's just the way it is and we're not getting to the ugly part yet... 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀?
you think mbti works like this e-n-f-p right?? well... you're wrong. an enfp is someone who uses 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 as their dominant cognitive function and 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 as their auxiliary function
what does this mean then?? according to a very easy to find article:
"Cognitive functions are the technical term for “Modes of processing information and making decisions based on your Myers-Briggs type.” Each type has four (out of a possible eight) cognitive functions +
"Cognitive functions are the technical term for “Modes of processing information and making decisions based on your Myers-Briggs type.” Each type has four (out of a possible eight) cognitive functions +
+ , which they use in a specific order. Identifying which functions you use – and in what order – is the most accurate way to type yourself or anyone else. The functions necessitate the four-letter type, not the other way around."
before you yell at me every person uses all eight functions. i'm an enfp, but i use extraverted feeling A LOT (unhealthily rip) but we have a tendency to use mostly two and then the other two that come with them. dominant function, auxiliary, tertiary and inferior
here's every possible combination of functions in order and what they mean + a very small description that i will comment in depth later
by the way:
ne = extraverted intuition
ni = introverted intution
fi = introverted feeling
fe = extroverted feeling
te = extroverted thinking
ti = introverted feeling
se = extroverted sensing
si = introverted sensing

i'm gonna break your heart and tell you every online mbti test is just as garbage as 16personalities. that's a bit too much but... yeah they're not rlly that useful :( the best one is http://keys2cognition.com/explore.htm because it takes into account functions rather than letters BUT
it has problems. for starters it's only available in english and it's very hard to understand. it's long and the questions are a bit hard to understand. the good things is that i find it mostly accurate? it tells you how much you use each function (all eight) and instead of
giving you only one result it gives you three possible types for you so yeah it's not perfect but that's how i started learning to type myself. rather than an infallible test it's a tool to understand mbti and help you type yourself
small pause because i'm not feeling great but i'll be back in a minute to give you a short description of each cognitive function
OKAYYY pause longer than what i expected but i'm not gonna explain each function because it's hard and i don't want to bore you more than what i already did so if you're interested in cognitive functions this article is actually pretty good https://thoughtcatalog.com/heidi-priebe/2015/06/if-youre-confused-about-your-myers-briggs-personality-type-read-this-an-intro-to-cognitive-functions/
for each type's portrait i like this website it's long as fuck obviously but that's because it makes sense and it's really really helpful https://www.personalitypage.com/html/portraits.html
ngl im not happy with how this thread turned out but i think it's very obvious why 16p doesn't work as an accurate mbti test. like if you don't care much about mbti fine i guess but i've seen people spread a lot of misinformation because idols take that damn test
and obvsly im not gonna blame idols they don't know much they just answer a couple of questions and call it a day but that doesn't mean i wont talk shit abt 16p hsdfhs i started learning about mbti when i was like... 17 and i'm 22 now
it took me a long time to actually understand how mbti works and believe it or not im still learning (partially bc i get bored easily) but if i had found something like this when i discovered mbti i think it would've been better because i was a bit obsessed with being special
i changed types like 37473 times because i wanted to be x type and i wanted to portray that image and when i got bored of that personality i just went and decided i was a different one (very enfp of me i guess? lmao) sooo yeah dont get too sad if you turn out to be a type
that isn't infp or a type that is "more common" because no type is bad and humans are more complicated than 16 personalities okay? it might take a while until you find a personality that you can say it's yours but this is just for fun so don't get stressed like 18-19 year old me
anyways no one asked me for my personal story but i still wanted to say there are no bad types and you can be anything and that's valid every person is special in their own way i only dislike you if you like 16personalities. i'm kidding obviously (or am i?)
since i didn't actually explain much you can ask me absolutely anything about mbti and i'll try to explain it here's my cc thank u for bearing with me https://curiouscat.me/saltymp3
