Realtalk for a moment. If u think getting review copies isnt a huge conflict of interest when you watch a review, you're sorely mistaken. Even if the reviewer ends up buying the game or gives it away, getting access early and being able to get your video out early is... (1/6)
hugely important. It translates into thousands of views and money and relevancy. You might not even notice how the review youre watching is impacted by this. Maybe an issue is glossed over, or a glitch isnt shown or the reviewer chooses his words just a tiny bit... (2/6)
more carefully. Or he points out that "its just not his thing but no biggie". If you're dependant on the good graces of a developer/publisher to provide you with games early, you dont want to burn that bridge. You are part of their marketing campaign and ... (3/6)
they will cut cords with you, if your review is not to their liking or they dont want to assosciate with the language you use. I think a lot of reviewers arent even aware of the bias they have when they get review copies and maybe it makes them try even harder... (4/6)
to be fair but understand, even them trying harder is a sympton of the conlfict of interest impacting their opinion. Which should not happen! I am big fan of a lot of reviewers who get review copies and I've joked about me never getting copies before. (5/6)
But honestly, if you're provided a product early in order to get the word out, no matter how transparent you are about it, your integrity is somewhat compromised, whether you realize it or not. With all that being said @Naughty_Dog The Last of Us II looks rly nice man 😎 (6/6)
